The United States administration announced today the suspension of mandatory security bonds of up to $15,000 for foreign fans holding confirmed tickets for the 2026 FIFA World Cup. This decision, issued by the U.S. State Department, specifically applies to travelers utilizing the “FIFA Pass” system, a streamlined process designed to accelerate visa approvals for the tournament. The competition is set to begin on June 11 and will be co-hosted by the United States, Canada, and Mexico.

“The United States is thrilled to host the largest and best World Cup in history,” stated Mora Namdar, Assistant Secretary for Consular Affairs. She confirmed that the country will waive these financial guarantees for qualified fans who have already purchased tickets for the tournament’s matches. This move represents a significant, yet temporary, easing of migration rules that were implemented over the past year to manage security and overstay risks.

The bond requirement, which previously ranged from $5,000 to $15,000, had targeted travelers from countries deemed to have a higher risk of illegal stay or security concerns. Among the 50 nations originally affected by these strict financial demands are Algeria, Cape Verde, Ivory Coast, Senegal, and Tunisia—all of which have national teams qualified for the 2026 World Cup. The suspension of these fees removes a major financial barrier for thousands of international supporters.

U.S. migration policies have faced intense scrutiny from human rights organizations and the tourism sector, which warned that such restrictions could hinder the tournament’s success. Amnesty International and various American hospitality associations recently issued warnings regarding the impact of these policies on international demand.

With the 23rd edition of the World Cup featuring 48 teams for the first time, this administrative shift is seen as a vital step in ensuring the global event remains accessible to fans from every qualified nation.
