Spain bets on the second youngest team in its history at the World Cup

In recent decades, Spain has raised the bar in football with achievements and a style that has enchanted the world. Under the leadership of Xavi and Iniesta, the national team won the 2010 World Cup and the Euro bis, in 2008 and 2012. However, the current moment is very different, and after the disappointments of 2014 and 2018, ‘La Roja ‘ undergoes a transition with a group full of promising young people.

The transition process between generations is common in any area and football is no different. Coach Luís Enrique goes through the same configuration that Luís Aragonés started in 2006, in Germany. It was there that, despite the fall in the round of 16 to France, the construction of a strong, competitive team began that dominated the world four years later.

Without going into a direct comparison with the previous generation, it should be noted that this group will be the second youngest in the history of Spain (average age of 25.6 years). Only the 1934 generation, which was eliminated by Brazil, was even younger, according to the newspaper ‘Marca’.
