It’s still open for control by the US Senate. Republicans dominate the House

After the polls close in all 50 US states, the results so far indicate that Republicans should control the House of Representatives, but the Senate is still within reach of Democrats.

With many results still to be determined, around 08:15 in mainland Portugal, Republicans and Democrats are tied for 48 in the Senate seats, with four seats still to be determined that will determine whether the tie at 50 remains (giving the Democrats an advantage, for tiebreaker for Vice President Kamala Harris) or whether Republicans can regain the upper house of Congress.

For the House of Representatives, according to projections by several American media, the Republicans are currently with an advantage of 195 seats against 174 for the Democrats, with the former having regained seven seats against a recovery of just two seats per part of the seconds.

However, these are still very provisional results, as some of the most disputed states – such as Nevada or Arizona – have closed the polls just a few hours ago, and the determination of crucial disputes for the Senate and House of Representatives is not known.

Still, the leader of the Republicans in the House of Representatives, Kevin McCarthy, addressed his supporters for the first time this morning, assuring that his party would win a majority in the lower house of Congress, although they were still decide dozens of places, of the 435 in dispute.

“When they wake up tomorrow, we will be the majority and Nancy Pelosi (the leader of the Democratic caucus) will be the minority”, assured McCarthy, who will have to guarantee her place as congressman for the state of California.

Still, McCarthy’s intervention came much later than initially planned, which reflects the uncertainty of the results and, above all, some disappointment among the Republican ranks, who are well ahead of their rivals in the first hours of the count. wishes.

The projections advanced by several American television channels point to a Republican advantage in the House of Representatives, between five and 10 seats, against the disadvantage of five seats in the legislature that is now ending.

The biggest uncertainty comes in the race for 35 of the 100 seats in the Senate, where results still need to be determined in some of the states that were expected to be crucial for the final outfit of the upper house of Congress, namely Georgia, Wisconsin, Nevada and Arizona.

All scenarios are still possible for the Senate, including maintaining the current tie at 50, which favors the Democrats, for the possibility of using the tiebreaker power on the part of Vice President Kamala Harris.

However, the counting of votes so far seems to give the Democrats an advantage, and it is even possible that they will get all the seats up for grabs in these four states, which would give them an advantage of 52 to 48.
