China wants new Sino-Lusophone agenda with development and security

The head of the Chinese Foreign Affairs Commission in Macau said today that development and security should be the two priorities for a new agenda for Sino-Lusophone cooperation in the post-pandemic era.

The commissioner recalled that the priorities have already been defined by Chinese President Xi Jinping as global initiatives, arguing that it is necessary to “deepen cooperation” with Portuguese-speaking countries in these areas, in order to “increase mutual, political trust”.

Liu Xianfa began by highlighting “the fast track of cooperation with Portuguese-speaking countries” since the beginning of the century, to conclude: “We have different cultures and traditions, but the common desire to follow a peaceful path”.

The commissioner recalled the “successful” Chinese path, based on “socialism with Chinese characteristics”, but also the more than 67 billion euros that Portuguese-speaking countries guaranteed in exports to China in the first half of this year, data that, he defended. , justify a future effort to breathe new life into cooperation between the two parties.

Liu Xianfa’s statements were made in the inaugural speech of the “Think Tanks Forum between China and Portuguese-speaking Countries: Based on the Macau platform, closer cooperation between China and Portuguese-speaking countries is encouraged in this New Era ”.

The forum was marked by the discussion of two sub-themes: “Initiatives related to development and security in the world and the future of cooperation between China and Portuguese-speaking countries” and “Macao’s role in cooperation between China and and Portuguese-speaking countries”.

The event, which took place at the Complex of Services Platform for Trade Cooperation between China and Portuguese-speaking Countries, was organized by the Commissariat of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the People’s Republic of China in the Special Administrative Region of Macau and by the Government of Macau Special Administrative Region of the People’s Republic of China, with the Polytechnic University of Macau.
