EU to suspend visa facilitation with Russia

While in the field of Defense – a meeting that takes place on Monday and Tuesday – the expansion of support granted to Ukraine will be discussed, at the meeting between the heads of diplomacy, this Tuesday and Wednesday, attention will be focused on the possible suspension of the agreement of visa facilitation for Russian tourists, the Financial Times (FT) reported this Sunday.

According to the British newspaper, the European Union should move towards freezing the 2007 EU-Russia visa agreement, which, if implemented, will make it more difficult and expensive for Russian citizens to obtain documents for circulation. in the Schengen area.

East pressure

The visa issue debate comes after some Eastern European member states threatened to unilaterally close their borders to Russian tourists; while other countries, such as Estonia, have called for collective action to prevent these citizens from traveling to the EU on tourist visas. The Ukrainian president has even insisted on a complete ban on entry into the Schengen area for these travelers.
