Museum of Ancient Art shows unprecedented Almada, the “stone in the shoe” of his estate

An unprecedented large piece, considered by the Almada Negreiros family “the stone in the shoe” of the artist’s estate, has been restored and will be able to be seen by the public, starting this Thursday, at the National Museum of Ancient Art

After 80 years kept in the former atelier of Almada Negreiros (1893-1970), this work, dated 1950, was in the hands of the specialists of the José de Figueiredo Laboratory, in Lisbon, to be restored, and has the title of the study entitled S. Vicente panels.

Kept for decades suffering from the degradation of time, it is almost two meters high and wide, and features photographic drawings and reproductions of the iconic 15th century panels, cotton yarn and wire, unique features now enhanced by a restoration and in-depth study.
