At least 69 people were arrested in Hong Kong on suspicion of participating in an unauthorized assembly or of committing other crimes on China’s National Day.
Hong Kong had already prepared for the potential chaos on Thursday, but there were more police than protesters on the streets, with officials putting about 6,000 police on the streets on the day that marks the 71st anniversary of the founding of the Republic People’s Republic of China.
