Amid recorded applause, Mariangel Villasmil, a 24-year-old psychology student, was awarded Miss Venezuela, on Thursday (25), in an austere, pre-recorded and unpopulated production contest due to the covid-19 pandemic.
Mariangel, a brunette with long blond hair, shed some tears of emotion by winning the beauty contest considered the biggest show in the Venezuelan entertainment industry and which has already exported seven Miss Universe.
The representative of the oil state of Zulia was not crowned, nor did she receive the Miss Venezuela banner, because of the advancement of covid-19 in the Caribbean country, with about 70,000 infected and 581 deaths, according to official data.
The new coronavirus pandemic forced a change in format, “in compliance with health regulations”, as the presenters repeatedly announced, and was broadcast on Thursday, without being live.
