US scientific journal supports Biden, breaking 175 years of electoral neutrality

For the first time in its nearly two centuries of existence, Scientific American announced on Tuesday its support for Democratic White House candidate Joe Biden, in the face of President Donald Trump’s “denial”, who is running for reelection, to climate change.

In an editorial, the magazine claims that it did not make the decision “lightly”. After 175 years of being out of the electoral process, this year “we were forced to do this”. Trump “rejects scientific evidence,” says the magazine founded in 1845, which published an article by Albert Einstein in 1950, in its editorial.

“The most devastating example is his dishonest and inept response to the covid-19 pandemic,” he adds.

“In his denial of reality, Trump has obstructed US preparations for climate change, falsely claiming that it does not exist and withdrawing from international agreements that aim to mitigate” its impact, he emphasizes.
