The Tokyo Olympic Games, postponed to 2021, will be played next year, regardless of the new coronavirus pandemic, John Coates, vice president of the International Olympic Committee (IOC), announced this Monday.
In a telephone interview with the news agency France-Presse (AFP), the chairman of the IOC coordination committee for the 2020 Olympic Games said the event will be a reality “with or without” covid-19 and will “begin to July 23 next year “.
“It will be the [Olympic] Games that defeated covid-19, the light at the end of the tunnel,” he said.
