Macau Legislative Assembly (AL) legislator José Pereira Coutinho defended today that the Government should start to demand from casinos a tourist quota for residents of luxury ‘resorts’ in the review of gambling concessions.
The only Portuguese legislator in Legislative Assembly said to the Lusa agency that the Government’s measures to encourage domestic tourism “resulted, as well as the discount packages promoted by the game concessionaires that operate the integrated ‘resorts’, but that it is necessary to continue with this policy.
Macau’s economy, which is very dependent on gambling and the Chinese tourist market, has suffered an unprecedented drop in both the operation of casinos and the entry of visitors since late January, following the first wave of cases of covid-19 detected in the territory.
Of the hundreds of millions of euros of gaming profits, Macau operators are now announcing losses on operations that include integrated ‘resorts’.
