Chinese administrative region extends mandatory use of masks
The city of Hong Kong will extend strict social distance measures, ordering the use of masks in all closed public places, such as shopping malls and markets, as the global financial hub has seen a record daily increase in cases of the new coronavirus.
Hong Kong tightened its social distance measures this month, after a spike in cases transmitted locally, and authorities warned of a third wave of infections.
“This is the most critical moment for Hong Kong. We ask citizens to be patient and stay at home as much as possible, ”said Health Secretary Sophia Chan.
Commenting on the peak of cases, she said people were more relaxed and are leaving more without masks. The new order to use masks in closed public places will run for two weeks.
Hong Kong reported 113 cases of coronavirus on Wednesday (22), a new daily record that included 105 infections transmitted locally.
Since the end of January, more than 2,000 people have been infected in Hong Kong, 14 of whom have died.
Sophia Chan said the closure of 12 types of venues, such as fitness centers and entertainment centers, will continue until July 28, as will the ban on eating in restaurants after 6 pm.
