The musical in Korea is seen as the only large-scale, English-language production that remains on the planet
“The Phantom of the Opera” has generated many superlatives over the years, including its classification as the longest-running show in Broadway history. But in recent months, the production has won a far more unlikely title: that of a pioneer musical of the Covid-19 era.
With the abrupt closing of theaters around the world, and with no clear route to reopening, the world tour of “The Phantom of the Opera” continues steadily in Seoul, South Korea, with eight performances a week.
