Portugal finished second in Group K of the 2026 World Cup on Saturday after playing out a 0-0 draw against group leaders Colombia on the final matchday of the opening stage. They will face Croatia in the round of 32, a knockout phase that the Democratic Republic of Congo has also successfully reached.
Playing in Miami, United States, the Portuguese team registered their second draw in this 23rd edition of the World Cup—following a 1-1 opening match against the Congolese—to finish the group stage in second place with five points, two behind the Colombians.
The DR Congo qualified as one of the best third-placed teams, racking up four points by pulling off a 3-1 comeback victory.

Eldor Shomurodov initially put Uzbekistan ahead in the 10th minute, but the Congolese turned the game around with a penalty from Yoane Wissa in the 68th minute, a strike from Fiston Mayele in the 78th, and a second from Wissa deep in stoppage time (90+1). The Uzbeks exit their debut World Cup tournament without earning a single point.
Portugal will now play Croatia, the runners-up of Group L, in Toronto, Canada, at 00:00 Lisbon time on Friday. Meanwhile, Colombia will face Carlos Queiroz’s Ghana the following day in Kansas City, United States, and the DR Congo will go head-to-head with Group L winners England on Wednesday in Atlanta.
