United States President Donald Trump has asked Israel not to respond to the attacks launched today by Iran against the country, so as not to jeopardize a negotiated resolution to the conflict.

“I am going to call Bibi [Netanyahu’s nickname] immediately to tell him not to retaliate. Israel has already made its attack and Iran has made theirs. We don’t need another [attack],” the American President declared, according to Axios journalist Barak Ravid, who claims to have spoken with him by telephone.

“We are about to conclude a definitive agreement with Iran. It will be a good deal. I don’t want it to go down the drain because of what is happening currently,” he added, according to the same source. In another interview given to a Fox News journalist, Donald Trump stated that the Iranian attacks “are not going to help in the negotiations.”

“We are very close. I would say that an agreement could be signed on Monday, Tuesday, or Wednesday of this week. And then this happens,” he said, according to journalist Trey Yingst, who also claims to have spoken with him on the phone. According to the same source, Trump said he was “not very happy” with the Israeli attack today that targeted Beirut.

“Get back to the negotiating table and reach an agreement,” he reinforced, addressing Iran, according to Fox News. In another statement to an Israeli television station, Trump assured that no one was injured in the missile attack. “If Netanyahu responds, this will go on and on. We are very close to an agreement to end the war and it will be a good agreement. I don’t want this to ruin the deal. Both parties attacked. I don’t want to see more attacks,” he insisted.

Iran launched 11 missiles over Israeli territory today, the first attack by Tehran against the State of Israel since the April ceasefire. The Israeli Army stated that it intercepted all the missiles launched by Iran, which activated Israeli anti-aircraft alerts at 22:00 local time (20:00 in Lisbon). At 22:47 (20:47 in Lisbon), the Army declared the “incident” over and allowed citizens to leave the shelters.

The Israeli emergency service Magen David Adom (MDA) recorded only one location where it received a call about a possible incident, which ultimately caused no injuries. Furthermore, teams from the Israel Fire and Rescue Service are inspecting several locations in the Golan Heights after receiving calls to the 102 hotline following this attack from Iran.

The Iranian attack comes after Israel attacked the southern suburbs of Lebanon’s capital today, for the first time since the latest truce announcement between Israel and the neighboring country.
