American musician Billy Corgan will bring his ongoing orchestral tour to Lisbon on September 15 to celebrate the 30th anniversary of The Smashing Pumpkins’ third album, “Mellon Collie and Infinite Sadness,” it was announced today.
Through social media and the Bandsintown platform, it was revealed that the concert will take place at the Coliseu dos Recreios in Lisbon, with no ticket information initially provided.
Upon the first announcement of dates in Europe and the United Kingdom two weeks ago, the musician was quoted in a social media post saying that “opera and rock both tell stories of heightened emotions,” which is why Corgan showed his enthusiasm for bringing “a truly inspired piece of work” to fans.
“The success of translating ‘Mellon Collie’ into an operatic and classical format has been one of the most satisfying experiences of my life. On each of the seven sold-out nights in Chicago, we ended with a standing ovation. Now we are taking the show on the road, and through Europe, so that this magical dream does not have to end,” the musician added.

“Mellon Collie and Infinite Sadness” was the third album by the band The Smashing Pumpkins, released in 1995 as a double CD and triple vinyl. The record produced tracks that went on to define the band’s career and the pop-rock music of that decade, such as “Bullet with Butterfly Wings,” “1979,” and “Tonight, Tonight.”
The band currently has another tour underway, titled “Rats in a Cage,” with dozens of dates across the United States of America, where two different setlists will be played at each of the shows, also in celebration of the 30th anniversary of “Mellon Collie and Infinite Sadness.”
