Timorese Prime Minister Kay Rala Xanana Gusmão argued today that the leaders of East Timor need to have a clear vision to improve the lives of the population and develop the nation. “We need vision; if we do not have vision, the government limits itself to improvising,” Xanana Gusmão stated. “It is necessary to have a vision to value the sacrifice of our heroes and also to give value to sovereignty, in order to improve the life of the people and of this country.”
The head of the executive branch spoke to journalists following his weekly meeting with Timorese President José Ramos-Horta at the Presidential Palace. Xanana Gusmão also called on the population to reflect on the 24 years of the restoration of independence, which was marked on Wednesday, considering that the date should serve as motivation to continue working better in the future.
