President Donald Trump stated on Saturday night that the gunfire that occurred at the press gala in Washington will not make him give up the war against Iran. Trump was removed from the podium at the White House Correspondents’ Association dinner after shots were heard near the hotel ballroom and security services detained an armed man.
“This will not make me give up on winning the war in Iran,” Trump said during a press conference at the White House, the seat of the presidency, just hours after the incident.

Trump stated that he believed the incident was not related to the international crisis, specifically the war that the United States and Israel have been waging against Iran since February 28. “I don’t know if it had anything to do with it, I really don’t think so, based on what we know,” he stated, as cited by Agence France-Presse (AFP). A few minutes earlier, Trump had responded “you never know” when asked if he thought the shots were linked to the war in Iran.
The President of the United States added that investigators were working to determine the motives of the shooting suspect, whom he described as a “lone wolf.” Trump canceled the trip his emissaries were scheduled to take to Pakistan on Saturday to meet with representatives from Tehran to end the war.
