Benfica won today during their visit to Sporting, 2-1, in the 30th round of the I Liga, with a goal in stoppage time, relaunching the fight for second place, with FC Porto able to increase their lead.
At Estádio José Alvalade, the Norwegian Andreas Schjelderup put the ‘encarnados’ ahead in the 27th minute by converting a penalty, shortly after the Colombian Luis Suárez had missed a spot-kick for the ‘leões’ in the 19th minute, but the Japanese player Morita restored the tie in the 72nd minute, before Rafa Silva scored the winning goal for Benfica in the 90+3 minute.

With this result, Benfica, who remain undefeated in the championship, provisionally climb to second place with 72 points, one more than Sporting, who have a game in hand, in the fight for a position that grants access to at least the Champions League qualifiers.
Following the defeat of the two-time champion Sporting, league leaders FC Porto, who have 76 points and host Tondela today, have the chance to increase their lead and take a decisive step towards the title, which has eluded them since the 2021/22 season.
