Negotiations between the United States and Iran ended without a peace agreement, as US Vice President JD Vance announced the conclusion of talks and returned to Washington.
The high-level discussions between Washington and Tehran lasted 21 hours but failed after Iranian officials refused to accept US conditions requiring a firm commitment not to develop nuclear weapons.
Speaking to reporters in Islamabad, Vance said the United States needed “an affirmative commitment” that Iran would neither pursue a nuclear weapon nor acquire the means to build one quickly.

“That is the central objective of the President of the United States,” Vance said, referring to Donald Trump. “And that is what we tried to achieve through these negotiations.”
The breakdown of talks raises uncertainty over the fragile ceasefire and increases tensions in an already volatile Middle East situation.
