On the 8th, Chief Executive Sam Hou Fai attended the opening ceremony of an exhibition on the history of the Chinese People’s Liberation Army at the garrison in Macau, where he called for the preservation of this military force’s historical legacy and for strengthening the unity among those who uphold love for the motherland and the region.
During his remarks, he highlighted that, over the course of nearly a century, the army has played a decisive role in national independence, the liberation of the people, and the country’s prosperity, emphasizing that the current stability is the result of this force’s efforts, protection, and dedication.
He noted that the exhibition provides an opportunity for residents, especially young people, to deepen their understanding of the army’s history and mission, reinforcing the understanding that national security is a responsibility shared by all of society.
Since Macau’s return to China, he added, the local garrison has fulfilled its defense duties in accordance with the Basic Law and the “one country, two systems” principle, contributing to the territory’s long-term stability and development. He also highlighted the military’s involvement in emergency response and public initiatives, which strengthen public confidence.

Sam Hou Fai also emphasized the need to balance development and security, in line with national guidelines, advocating for the enhancement of risk awareness, the promotion of new drivers of economic growth, and the consolidation of a high-quality development model.
The Chief Executive reiterated that Macau will continue to deepen patriotic education and strengthen social cohesion, promoting the sustainable implementation of the “one country, two systems” principle.
