At least 500 homes are at risk of collapsing due to severe erosion in Pemba, northern Mozambique, prompting authorities to prepare the urgent relocation of affected families to safer areas.
Marques Namba, delegate of the National Institute for Disaster Risk Management (INGD) in Cabo Delgado province, stated that “we are talking about 500 families. They are in an extreme situation, and we will have to relocate them immediately.”

The risk is driven by intensified rains, which have caused soil instability in multiple neighborhoods across the municipality. Families are expected to be moved to prepared centers in Ntocota and Naminawe, in the Metuge district, where facilities can accommodate the displaced population.
Local teams are actively mobilizing communities to evacuate areas deemed highly dangerous.
