Solidarity with populations affected by heavy rains in Mozambique, Cape Verde, and Portugal will be a central theme of the 43rd General Assembly of UCCLA, scheduled for the 13th in Macau.
The agenda includes the discussion and approval of three motions related to severe rainfall events: in Mozambique at the end of December 2025 and January 2026, in Cape Verde in August 2025, and in Portugal in early 2026—all of which resulted in fatalities and significant damage.
The assembly will also include a vote of mourning and recognition for António Lobo Antunes, who passed away on March 5.
The meeting, taking place at the Forum Macau complex, will also review applications for membership or hosting roles from the city of Viseu, the Angolan province of Ícolo e Bengo (south of Luanda, comprising seven municipalities), and a Portuguese-Brazilian association.

On the sidelines of the assembly, a business forum titled “Infrastructure and Smart Cities” will be held the following day, aimed at strengthening the organization’s economic and commercial dynamics.
The forum will highlight Macau’s investment environment, the advantages of the China–Portuguese-speaking platform, and the joint development opportunities between Macau and the Guangdong-Macau Intensive Cooperation Zone in Hengqin, as well as business prospects linked to the Greater Bay Area for Portuguese-speaking countries.
After the forum, the Macau government will host a guided visit to Hengqin, a special economic zone developed in cooperation with the city of Zhuhai, showcasing opportunities for collaboration with mainland Chinese services and companies.
