The President of Mozambique, Daniel Chapo, today called for unity, peace, and solidarity among citizens during Easter celebrations, urging prayers and support for populations affected by floods, cyclones, and terrorism in the country.

“This is a moment to join our brothers and sisters spiritually, praying that the suffering caused by floods and inundations, which result from these natural disasters, passes as soon as possible, and also to pray that this evil, which is terrorism, may one day end,” said President Chapo.

He made the remarks after attending Easter Sunday Mass with Catholic faithful at the Polana Church in Maputo, in southern Mozambique, highlighting the spiritual significance of the day for Christians.

The President reminded the nation that Mozambique is going through a “difficult period,” marked by natural disasters, particularly in the south, and armed insecurity in the north, calling for prayers for those affected.

President Chapo emphasized that the resurrection of Jesus Christ is a fitting moment to pray for the country, underscoring that Easter is a time of joy, peace, reconciliation, communion, and harmony among Mozambicans, as well as hope and unity among citizens.
