Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi stated that prolonged wars have no winners, and called for an end to hostilities during a telephone conversation with UK Foreign Secretary Yvette Cooper on Thursday, which centered on the situation in the Middle East.
During the call, Wang Yi, who is also a member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee, warned that the conflict in the region is intensifying and spreading, with negative effects not only on regional peace and stability but also on global energy, financial, trade, and maritime transport markets.
China maintains that all parties must immediately cease military operations and resolve their differences through dialogue on an equal footing to safeguard regional stability, the Chinese foreign minister stated.
On the British side, Cooper indicated that the United Kingdom intends to maintain close communication with China in the face of an increasingly unstable international scenario, advocating for a swift end to the conflict, a return to diplomatic negotiations, and the search for long-term solutions.

As standing members of the United Nations Security Council, China and the United Kingdom have a responsibility to uphold international peace and security, Wang Yi said, adding that both sides should strengthen communication and support actions that contribute to peace.
The minister also emphasized the need to uphold the principles of the United Nations Charter and the basic norms of international relations, in order to prevent the deterioration of the international order and the weakening of the foundations of global peace.
The two sides also discussed bilateral relations, agreeing to implement the consensus reached by the leaders of both countries and to strengthen exchanges, to promote a stable and long-term comprehensive strategic partnership in an international context marked by uncertainty.
