Many first-time stars for Portugal and a major highlight for Fifty Seconds, which reached the highly coveted second star.
On Tuesday evening, March 10, the Michelin Guide Portugal 2026 distinctions were revealed at the annual gala held in Funchal, on the island of Madeira. This year’s edition brought remarkable news for Portuguese gastronomy, with ten new restaurants receiving a Michelin star and Lisbon’s Fifty Seconds restaurant earning its second star — one of the night’s standout moments.
Portugal now counts approximately 53 Michelin-starred restaurants in total, reinforcing the growth and diversity of the country’s high-end cuisine.
Among the ten newly starred restaurants, spread across several regions from the Algarve to the north, are Alameda (Faro), MAPA (Montemor-o-Novo), Éon (Porto) and Schistó (Peso da Régua). Fifty Seconds, led by chef Rui Silvestre, joined the exclusive group of Portuguese establishments with two stars. Chef Angélica Salvador, at the helm of In Diferente (Porto), was another name in the spotlight, becoming one more Portuguese woman chef recognised by the guide.
Portugal remains without a restaurant holding the maximum distinction of three Michelin stars, despite the sector’s continued evolution.
Beyond the stars, the guide also awarded Bib Gourmand distinctions — recognising excellent value for money — and continued to highlight sustainable gastronomy through the Green Star.
The Michelin Stars Portugal 2026 ceremony marked another milestone for Portuguese dining, reflecting both the quality and creativity of the country’s cuisine and the growing international profile of its chefs and restaurants.
