The Ukrainian Parliament approved the resignation of Prime Minister Yulia Svyrydenko on Tuesday. This legislative move aligns with the broader cabinet reorganization announced by Zelensky on Sunday, though a permanent successor has not yet been named. Ukrainian Defense Minister Mykhailo Fedorov announced his resignation today, following the step-down of the prime minister as part of a government reshuffle initiated by President Volodymyr Zelensky.

“It was a great honor to serve the Ukrainian people as Minister of Defense,” Fedorov wrote in a lengthy Telegram post highlighting his department’s successes since he assumed the role in January. He followed the post with a second, shorter message addressing his shortcomings.

Zelensky announced the political shake-up on Sunday, citing the implementation of “a new political strategy” without offering further details.

The political shifts come as Ukraine continues to defend itself against a full-scale Russian invasion launched in February 2022, which has left significant portions of the country occupied by Moscow’s forces. Russia previously annexed Ukraine’s Crimean Peninsula in 2014.

The ongoing war, with military and civilian casualties still unquantified, remains the most severe conflict in Europe since World War II.
