The discussion took place on Tuesday afternoon at the HKMAO headquarters in Beijing, involving deputies to the National People’s Congress (NPC) and members of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) from the two Special Administrative Regions.
Xia Baolong, who also serves as the Director of the Central Hong Kong and Macau Work Office, welcomed the representatives to Beijing. He emphasized the significance of the upcoming “15th Five-Year Plan” period for the regions.
The Director urged attendees to cherish the hard-won stability currently enjoyed by Hong Kong and Macau. He highlighted the need to prioritize national interests and fulfill their duties with responsibility. Xia Baolong called on the representatives to lead by example in studying and implementing the spirit of the “Two Sessions.”
He specifically requested continued support for the Special Administrative Region (SAR) governments in governing in accordance with the law. The ultimate goal outlined was to promote high-quality development and better integration into the national governance framework, contributing to the nation’s modernization and rejuvenation.
Several high-ranking officials participated in the exchange. These included Executive Deputy Director Xu Qifang and Deputy Directors Zhou Ji, Zheng Xincong, and Nong Rong.
Dong Jingwei, the head of the Office for Safeguarding National Security in Hong Kong, was also present at the meeting.
The gathering served as a key preparatory exchange before the formal commencement of the annual legislative and political advisory sessions in the capital.
