The United States has struck more than 1,250 targets in the first 48 hours of the conflict with Iran, the US military announced today.
More than a thousand targets had already been hit on the first day of the military operation, according to the Chairman of the US Joint Chiefs of Staff, Dan Caine.
The targets include command and control centers, ballistic missile facilities, ships and submarines, as well as anti-ship missile installations, according to data released by US Central Command (CENTCOM).
Israel and the United States launched a military strike against Iran on Saturday to “eliminate the imminent threats posed by the Iranian regime,” and Tehran responded with missiles and drones against US military bases in the region and Israeli targets.
US President Donald Trump stated that the operation aims to “eliminate imminent threats” from Iran, while Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu justified the joint action against what he described as an “existential threat.”
Iran has confirmed the death of Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, the country’s Supreme Leader since 1989, and declared a 40-day mourning period.
At least 555 people have been killed in Iran since the strikes began, according to the Iranian Red Crescent humanitarian organization. The US military confirmed the deaths of four American service members.
