Angolan president João Lourenço has authorised spending of 4.5 billion kwanzas (€4.2 million) for the acquisition of medicines for the treatment of diabetes, hypertension and sickle cell anaemia, according to a presidential decree published today.

João Lourenço, in a dispatch consulted today by Lusa, authorises the spending and formalises the opening of a public tender for the award of a framework agreement for the acquisition of medicines for the aforementioned diseases, worth 4.5 billion kwanzas.

According to the Angolan president, the medicines in question are essential to the functioning of public hospital units, and the measure aims to ensure medical and pharmaceutical care for patients who turn to public hospitals seeking treatment.

Guaranteeing continuity of treatment and improving the quality of health services is also among the purposes of this measure, the dispatch reads.

The minister of health has been delegated authority, with the power to sub-delegate, for the approval of the tender procedure documents, the appointment of the evaluation committee, and the verification of the validity and legality of all acts carried out within the scope of this procedure.
