Cotai jewellery shops scrutinised amid heightened action against money touts

Macau police have continued to intensify their crackdown on illegal exchange businesses on jewellery-selling premises in the gambling powerhouse of Cotai, with the latest case allegedly involving nearly HK$40 million (MOP41.06 million / US$5.12 million / RMB35.42 million) in funds converted.

This was the fourth case announced by the Judiciary Police in two months. In December last year, police detectives caught two shopkeepers over deals allegedly reaching a combined HK$190 million.

From this operation, active since July 2025, at least HK$5.8 million in illegal gains were made.
