This year’s event will pay tribute to Portuguese poet Camilo Pessanha on the centenary of his death, with writers António Carlos Cortez, Carlos Morais José and Christopher Chu among those revisiting his legacy in Macau.

The opening will feature the exhibition Human Territories: Photography, Belonging and Memory, showcasing works by Portuguese photographer Alfredo Cunha and China’s Liu Zheng, alongside the launch of two photography books.

International guests include Amitav Ghosh, Pulitzer Prize winner Hernán Diaz, biographer Adam Sisman, French-Swiss novelist Elisa Shua Dusapin, travel cartoonist Guy Delisle and spoken word artist Carlos Andrés Gomez. Lawrence Osborne and Mike Goodridge will present work linked to Ballad of Small Players, a film shot in Macau and released in 2025.

Chinese-language literature will be represented by Bi Feiyu, Xiao Bai, Gu Shi, Lu Jian and Xie Youshun, while Portuguese journalists João Miguel Tavares and Miguel Carvalho will discuss recent investigative works. Filipa Queiroz and Andreia Sofia da Silva will return with a documentary and book exploring heritage and censorship.

Local voices such as Yao Feng, Rai Matsu, Zita Si Tou Chi U and Cheung Wai Man will join, with tributes planned for late Macanese architect José Maneiras.

The multidisciplinary programme will also feature Portuguese director Tiago Guedes with screenings of A Herdade and Restos do Vento, and his staging of Suzie Miller’s play Prima Facie, starring Margarida Vila-Nova. Musician Rodrigo Leão will perform at the Macau Cultural Centre on March 11.
