Trump reaches “preliminary agreement” on Greenland and backs down on tariffs against Europe.

Donald Trump said on Wednesday that he had reached a "preliminary agreement" on Greenland after a meeting with NATO leader Mark Rutte, and that he would therefore waive the tariffs he had threatened to impose on European allies defending the island from Denmark.

After a “very productive meeting” with the NATO Secretary General, the American president reached a “preliminary agreement” on Greenland and “the entire Arctic region,” Trump wrote on Truth Social, without revealing further details.

“This solution, if implemented, will be excellent for the United States of America and for all NATO countries,” he assures, stressing that he will not “impose the tariffs that were scheduled to take effect on February 1st.”

The US president indicates that more information will be released “as discussions progress,” with Vice President JD Vance, Secretary of State Marco Rubio, Special Envoy Steve Witkoff, and several others responsible for this.
