Sands China announces pay rise and bonus payouts

Sands China, the Macau-based casino operator, announced on Monday that it will implement a company-wide salary increase and distribute discretionary bonuses to its workforce. The move follows similar announcements by other major integrated resort operators in the city.

Beginning March 1st, approximately 99% of the company’s employees will receive a salary adjustment. Full-time staff earning a monthly pre-tax salary of MOP16,000 or less will receive a flat increase of MOP500, representing a pay rise of between 3.1% and 4%. Those earning above MOP16,000 per month will see their base pay increase by 2%.

In addition to the base salary hikes, Sands China will issue a performance-based bonus on February 6th. Non-management employees who have completed at least one year of service will receive a bonus equivalent to one month’s salary. Bonuses for management-level staff will be determined based on a combination of corporate performance and individual metrics. Employees with less than one year of service will receive pro-rated payments.

Grant Chum, Chief Executive Officer and Executive Director of Sands China, attributed the rewards to the hard work and dedication of the staff. He stated that the company remains committed to supporting Macau’s development as a global centre for tourism and leisure.

The announcement comes as the Macau gaming industry continues its post-pandemic recovery, with several other operators recently confirming similar incentive schemes to retain talent in a tightening labour market.
