Casino Landmark closes: end of an era

Casino Landmark, the final satellite casino in Macau, closed its doors at 11:59 p.m. on Tuesday, bringing an end to a business model that had defined a significant chapter in the city’s gaming industry since the 1990s.

Located within the New Orient Landmark Hotel on the Macau peninsula under the gaming licence of SJM Holdings, the casino’s final moments were witnessed by over 100 gamblers, employees and onlookers — brought together by a mix of chants, cheers and quiet tears — with some describing the closure to MNA as “inevitable”.

In its final hour of operation, a check by MNA found that only six baccarat tables on the ground floor remained active. The rest of the gaming floors, including dozens of gambling tables and machines, had already ceased operations. Even the snack and drink counters were shut ahead of the final countdown.
