The excitement surrounding The NBA China Games 2025 at The Venetian Arena continued to spread through Macao as NBA Cares and Sands Cares co-hosted a community basketball carnival on Saturday at the NBA House, located at The Venetian Macao’s Cotai Expo Hall A.
The event was part of the “NBA Cares x Sands Cares Community Impact Week,” an initiative aimed at connecting the Macao community through basketball, compassion, and inclusion.
NBA Legend Shawn Marion headlined the event, leading an interactive basketball session with members of local social service organisations.
Around 150 participants attended, including 120 family members from the Macao Federation of Trade Unions, the General Union of Neighbourhood Associations of Macao, and the Women’s General Association of Macao, as well as Sands Cares Ambassadors.
Sands Global Ambassador David Beckham also joined to support the event and engage with families.
The day began with a high-energy performance by the Phoenix Suns’ Gorilla mascot, setting a lively tone for the carnival. Families and Sands Cares Ambassadors enthusiastically took part in themed sports games, while a cheerleading team and two performance groups—the Phoenix Flyers and Team Hype—added to the vibrant atmosphere.
Shawn Marion shared basketball tips and fun challenges with participants, while David Beckham joined children to create hand-drawn T-shirts, adding a heartwarming personal touch. Goodie bags distributed during the event contained a quick-dry towel, cordless jump rope, and an NBA blind box, symbolizing the spirit of community care and celebration.
Patrick Dumont, President and Chief Operating Officer of Las Vegas Sands Corp., said: “The NBA China Games is a globally anticipated sports extravaganza, and the debut of the NBA House in Macao is a celebration of basketball designed for fans, residents and visitors. Sands Cares and NBA Cares are honoured to have co-hosted the community basketball carnival, inviting members of several local community organisations and their families to immerse themselves in the exciting atmosphere of the games. The carnival also provided an opportunity for those families to interact closely with NBA Legend Shawn Marion and Sands Global Ambassador David Beckham. As a testament to our unwavering commitment to the local community, we are proud to promote the fun and excitement of sports in an environment that fosters family harmony and spreads positive energy.”
Distinguished guests at the event included Shawn Marion, David Beckham, Patrick Dumont, Ron Reese, Senior Vice President of Global Communications and Corporate Affairs of Las Vegas Sands Corp.; Zachary Hudson, Executive Vice President and Global General Counsel of Las Vegas Sands Corp.; Dr. Wilfred Wong, Executive Vice Chairman of Sands China Ltd.; and Dave Sun, Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer of Sands China Ltd. and managing director of Venetian Macau Limited.
Running Oct. 8-12, the five-day Community Impact Week coincided with The NBA China Games 2025 at The Venetian Arena.
NBA Legends Mitch Richmond, Tim Hardaway, Yao Ming, Shawn Marion, and Deron Williams—along with players from the Phoenix Suns and Brooklyn Nets—engaged in various outreach activities, including basketball exchanges with local schools, boxed lunch distribution, and the “Her Time to Play” clinic.
After debuting Wednesday, the NBA House concluded Sunday, offering fans an immersive mix of basketball, music, fashion, and technology. The event, which has toured globally, continues to inspire fans through dynamic interaction with NBA Legends.
These initiatives, part of the Sands Cares global corporate citizenship programme, demonstrate Sands China’s ongoing commitment to nurturing community well-being and social harmony in Macao.
