Mainland and Macau forge cross-border payment link

People’s Bank of China and Monetary Authority of Macao have signed a memorandum of understanding to establish a cooperation framework for cross-border payment interconnectivity between mainland China and Macau.

According to a Monday announcement from the city’s de-facto central bank, the pact aims to boost payment efficiency and service quality, facilitating smoother economic activity and immigration movements across the two regions.

The authorities added that they were planning to involve financial institutions from both sides to provide residents with ‘secure’, ‘efficient’, and ‘convenient’ channels for transfers of cross-border money.
