“Club Atlético Boca Juniors announces, with deep sadness, the death of Miguel Ángel Russo. Miguel leaves an indelible mark on our institution and will always be an example of joy, affection, and dedication. We are with his family and loved ones in this time of mourning. Goodbye, dear Miguel,” the Buenos Aires club wrote on social media.
According to the EFE news agency, the Argentine coach had been diagnosed with prostate cancer in July 2017, and later with bladder cancer, but decided to continue coaching, then in Colombia, under the Milionarios club.
Since the end of September of this year, his health has worsened and he has been on medical leave, receiving care at home, after being hospitalized three times that same month, once for a urinary tract infection.
On Tuesday, Boca Juniors had already announced that Miguel Ángel Russo was “hospitalized at home, with a guarded prognosis, receiving constant care from his medical team and the club’s medical team.”
