As of January 1, 2026, Hong Kong will no longer be part of Portugal’s tax haven list, along with Liechtenstein and Uruguay. Authorities from the neighboring region had long requested the removal, including during official visits to Portugal. The Portugal-Hong Kong Chamber of Commerce and Industry highlights that the decision is consistent with the European Union’s position.
The Hong Kong government has finally seen fulfilled its long-expressed wish to be removed from Portugal’s tax haven list. The change will take effect on January 1, 2026, according to the order published on Friday by the Ministry of Finance in the Diário da República.
