Event Performance & Context

Macao’s largest sales event, the 2025 Sands Shopping Carnival, ran July 17–19 at The Venetian Macao’s Cotai Expo, concluding one day early because of Typhoon Wipha.

In its sixth edition, the three-day carnival attracted nearly 110,000 visits, nearly matching last year’s four-day attendance and bringing total cumulative visitation since 2020 to over 640,000.

Partnership & Strategic Goal

Organised by Sands China Ltd. and co-organised by the Macao Chamber of Commerce—with support from DSEDT, MGTO, and IPIM—the carnival advances the Macao government’s “tourism+” strategy.

It provides a free business platform for local SMEs, Sands retailers, NGOs, and cultural organisations, while offering residents and Greater Bay Area visitors a dynamic summer destination.

  • 580+ booths across eight zones: Sands Retailers; Household Products; Gourmet & Wine; Food Court; Coffee (new); Macao Cultural & Creative; Play & Fun; Macao Specialties & Souvenirs.
  • 5,000+ MOP 1 items daily and discounts up to 90%.
  • 21,000 m² air-conditioned exhibition space, free parking, and shuttle services to Nam Van, Border Gate, and Hengqin Port.

Signature Highlights

  • GBA Karaoke King Competition: 100+ contestants enlivened the carnival with musical performances.
  • Little Master Chef Workshop: Families collaborated on sushimaking, led by Sands China’s F&B team.
  • Busking Corner: Outside the Coffee Zone, visitors showcased live music against Macao’s café culture backdrop.

Community & Inclusion Initiatives

  • Record-high 19 community organizations hosted booths, up from three in 2020, promoting services and vocational training.
  • Sands Cares Ambassadors supported Salvation Army Joy Family Centre karting outings and joined the Little Master Chef Workshop with the Macau Catholic Family Advisory Council.
  • Macau Special Olympics members served as festival reporters, gaining mediaproduction experience.
  • Sands ECO360 Ambassadors and NGO Green Future demonstrated recycling techniques, while a PlasticFree July Workshop encouraged sustainable habits.

SME Empowerment & Social Impact

Booths from the Rua das Estalagens Entrepreneurship Programme, Iec Long Firecracker Factory retailers, and Sands EmpowHER entrepreneurs provided exposure and client connections—reinforcing the carnival’s role in economic diversification and local empowerment.

Leadership Reflections

Dr. Wilfred Wong, Executive Vice Chairman of Sands China Ltd., expressed gratitude to government bodies, sponsors (BOC Macau, ICBC Macau, Bank of Communications Macau, BNU), the Macao Chamber of Commerce, SMEs, and the public for supporting the carnival—rain or shine—and pledged to continue innovating under “tourism+” for sustainable Macao development.
