Empowering Youth Through Regional Engagement
A group of 44 participants, including Sands Cares Ambassadors and youth from the Noah Youth Growth and Development Centre and the Sheng Kung Hui Youth Leadership Development Center, joined the Macao and Hengqin Study Tour for Youth on Sunday.
The tour was organized by Sands China Ltd. in collaboration with the Macau Youth Development Service Centre to deepen participants’ understanding of Hengqin’s development and the broader Greater Bay Area (GBA) strategy.
Key Stops and Learning Objectives
The itinerary included visits to the Exhibition Hall of the Guangdong-Macao In-Depth Cooperation Zone in Hengqin, Macau New Neighbourhood’s residential facilities, the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area Youth Education Office of the Constitutional and Basic Law, and the General Union of Neighbourhood Association of Macau’s Guangdong Office.
These venues offered insights into urban planning, policy frameworks, and social service integration between Macao and Hengqin.
Leadership Perspectives
Dr. Wilfred Wong, Executive Vice Chairman of Sands China Ltd., described Hengqin as “the back garden of Macao’s development,” offering vast space for diversification. He emphasized that the tour was an extension of Sands China’s volunteer efforts and aimed to inspire young people to “seize opportunities and contribute to national development and the moderate diversification of Macao’s economy.”
Youth Engagement and Exchange
A highlight of the program was a networking lunch with Hengqin-based entrepreneurs and professionals, allowing participants to exchange views on local business environments and explore cross-regional career possibilities.
Partner Reflections
Ip Kam Po from Sheng Kung Hui praised the tour’s rich itinerary and its role in promoting “patriotism and understanding of development opportunities in the GBA.” Chan Chi Neng from the Noah Youth Growth and Development Centre added that the experience helped participants recognize pathways for youth entrepreneurship and integration into national strategies.
Ongoing Commitment
The study tour is part of the broader Sands Cares in the Greater Bay Area initiative, designed to enhance awareness of national development among team members and local youth.
By investing in educational outreach, Sands China continues supporting Macao’s transformation into a world centre of tourism and leisure, in line with national goals for regional integration and sustainable growth.
