Number of visitors to Macau rises 9.9% to more than 2.5 million in September

Macau received more than 2.5 million visitors in September, an increase of 9.9% year on year, according to data released today by the authorities.

The arrival of 2,528,011 visitors to the territory represents “a recovery of 91.4% of the number” seen in the same month of 2019, even before the covid-19 pandemic, said the Directorate of Statistics and Census Services (DSEC).

After three years of strict restrictions due to the pandemic, the territory reopened its borders to all foreigners, including tourists, from the beginning of last year.

In the month under review, the numbers of day trippers (1,308,147) and tourists (1,219,864) rose, in annual terms, by 15.6% and 4.3%, respectively, DSEC said in a statement.

Between January and September, the number of visitors to Macau totaled 25,920,914, 30.1% more compared to the same period in 2023.

The majority of visitors registered in the first nine months of the year arrived from mainland China: 18,217,413, or 36.3 percent more year on year, he added.
