Quoted by the official Xinhua news agency, Xi said China and Brazil are “both important developing countries and key emerging markets” as well as “like-minded good friends” and should take the anniversary “as a new starting point ” to strengthen ties.
In his congratulatory message, Lula said that relations between Brazil and China “are increasingly important for the construction of a multipolar order, as well as fairer and more effective global governance”.
“Relations between Brazil and China play an important role in supporting the stability and predictability of both countries and the world,” said Lula, also quoted by the Xinhua news agency.
According to official data, China has been Brazil’s largest trading partner since 2008, and the two countries have maintained close relations driven by the BRICS bloc of emerging economies – founded by Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa – which since 2009 has defended greater representation of developing countries in international organizations.
The Chinese market was the destination for 30% of Brazilian exports in 2023, when sales to the Asian country totaled 104 billion dollars (95 billion euros), made up mainly of food products and raw materials.
China maintains investments in Brazil of around 40 billion dollars (36 billion euros).
