At least 157 arrested in France. Firefighter dies in fire

Data from the French Interior Ministry indicate that at least 157 people were arrested in another night of riots in France after the death, last week, of a 17-year-old by a police officer in Nanterre, on the outskirts of Paris. There were 352 fires on public roads and 297 vehicles were set on fire. Three members of the security forces were injured.

The Minister of the Interior reported this Monday that a 24-year-old firefighter died while fighting a fire that involved “several vehicles in an underground car park in Sait-Denis (93)”. The victim, who was part of Paris firefighters, was assisted “quickly” by his colleagues, indicated Gérald Darmanin in a message published on Twitter, but ended up dying.

President Emmanuel Macron meets this Monday with the presidents of the Senate (upper house of the French parliament), Gérard Larcher, and of the National Assembly (lower house), Yaël Braun-Pivet. On Tuesday, the French head of state will receive at the Élysée about two hundred mayors from the municipalities affected by the turmoil of recent days.
