Chinese President Xi Jinping urged the army to “strengthen current combat-oriented military training,” state-run CCTV reported.
XI made the remarks on Tuesday during a final inspection after the end of Chinese armed forces’ maneuvers around Taiwan.
The army must “resolutely defend China’s territorial sovereignty and maritime interests, as well as strive to protect overall peripheral stability,” added the Chinese head of state.
During this week’s military exercises, which took place between Saturday and Tuesday, the Chinese Navy carried out simulated attacks with fighter jets installed on aircraft carriers.
