Neymar’s troubled spell at Paris Saint-Germain hints that it is likely to go on for a long time. According to journalist David Ornstein of “The Athletic” newspaper, Neymar wants to retire at the club by serving out his contract – which runs until June 2027 – until the end.
The PSG board no longer see Neymar as a priority in their project. The Brazilian has now been at the club for six years, but has never managed to lead the team to a coveted UEFA Champions League title and once again missed out on a knockout stage in the French side’s recent elimination to Bayern Munich. Ornstein said Neymar still wants to stay in Paris to fulfil his goal of winning the continental competition.
The striker’s numbers this season were positive until his injury. In 29 matches for PSG, he has 18 goals and 17 assists, as well as winning the French Super Cup against Nantes, scoring twice in the match. Since arriving in France, that’s 118 goals in 173 appearances for the Brazilian, adding up all competitions.
