Flamengo, coached by Portuguese Vítor Pereira, failed early this Wednesday to win the South American Cup, after falling on penalties (4-5) against Independiente del Valle, at the Maracanã Stadium, in Rio de Janeiro, in a match between second hand.
After the 1-0 defeat in Quito, the red-and-blacks forced extra time on the second, with another 1-0, thanks to a goal by Giorgian De Arrascaeta, in the 90+6 minute, but, afterwards, they conceded in the lottery, , precisely, to a fault of the Uruguayan.
The Ecuadorian formation, which succeeded Palmeiras, by the also Portuguese Abel Ferreira, won the first victory in the competition, after the defeat in the inaugural presence, in 2020, also against Flamengo, then led by the Portuguese Jorge Jesus.
