One dead, two wounded in Russian missile attack on Kiev

One person died and two were injured after Russian missiles fired at Kiev this morning, said today the mayor of the Ukrainian capital, Vitali Klitschko.

“We have information that there is one dead and two wounded” in the Golosiivsky neighborhood in southern Kiev, Klitschko said in a message he broadcast via the Telegram messaging system.

At the last minute, Agence France Presse reported an explosion in the Ukrainian capital, adding that military authorities had reported that 15 Russian missiles had been neutralized in the Kiev area.

The total number of Russian missiles fired today against Ukraine is still unknown, but the spokesman for the Ukrainian Air Force admitted that at least 30 had been launched in the early hours of the day, of which six (missiles) TU-95 were designed from Russian region of Murmansk.

The new wave of missiles fired by Russia against Ukraine comes a day after Germany agreed to send Leopard 2 tanks to Ukrainian forces, prompting strong protest from Moscow.

For Russia, it is about a new kind of commitment from western countries to the Kiev government.

Meanwhile, two power stations in Ukraine’s Odessa region were also hit by the latest Russian missile strike, local authorities said in a statement.

“Two essential energy infrastructures in the Odessa region (southern Ukraine) were hit,” the head of the local Military Administration said in a statement today.

The attack against Odessa caused no injuries, according to available data at this time.

Local authorities appealed to the civilian population to remain in shelters.
