Ukraine rejects responsibility for bombings at Crimea air base

Ukraine on Wednesday rejected any responsibility for the August 2 bombings at a Russian air base in Crimea, the Ukrainian peninsula annexed by Russia in 2014, which left one dead and 13 injured.

“Of course we have nothing to do with it,” said Ukrainian presidential adviser Mikhail Podolyak, quoted by Spanish news agency EFE.

Podolyak said the explosions could have had a variety of causes, from an accidental detonation of munitions, as the Russian Defense Ministry claimed, to the result of “inefficient management of the Russian Federation’s armed forces”.

However, when questioned by journalists, President Volodymyr Zelensky’s adviser did not rule out the possibility of action by civilians who want Crimea’s release.
