Macau lowers tropical cyclone alert, which is moving away from the territory

Macau lowered at 13:00 the warning signal for tropical cyclone Mulan, as it moves away from the territory.

The Macao Meteorological and Geophysical Services Directorate said that the weather “remains unstable due to the influence of the tropical cyclone circulation (…) and related rain bands” and that strong winds, occasional showers and thunderstorms are still expected.

According to the Civil Protection, until 12:00 no incidents had been recorded, both on the Macau peninsula and on the islands of Taipa and Coloane.

According to the Civil Aviation Authority, eight scheduled flights to Macau International Airport were delayed, canceled or changed.

The authorities reported that the public transport service has resumed and in the meantime circulation on the three sea bridges has reopened.

Only four people sought shelter in the Emergency Reception Centers.

Macau had today declared the status of immediate prevention and raised the alert level to 8 due to Mulan, now lowering the warning to level 3.

The tropical storm alert scale is formed by signals 1, 3, 8, 9 and 10, whose emission depends on the proximity of the storm and the intensity of the winds.

Since 2017, three typhoons have forced authorities to issue high alert, with the last (Higos) hitting Macau in August 2020.

In September 2018, Mangkhut caused 40 injuries and severe flooding in the territory.

A year earlier, Typhoon Hato (later called Yamaneko by local authorities), considered the worst in more than 50 years to hit the territory, caused 10 deaths and 240 injuries.
